Uniãde Mulheres Pró Melhoramento da Roupa Suja supports the promotion of social inclusion for female residents of the Roupa Suja neighbourhood of Rocinha in Brazil, through education and vocational training. Rocinha is one of the largest favelas in South America and is home to more than 250,000 residents who are extremely proud of where they live. Inequality, however, is a huge challenge and the ‘Womens Unit for the Betterment of Roupa Suja’ helps work towards bridging that gap by helping some of the most destitute of its female residents.
Started by one woman in the early 1980’s, the organisation today helps children right up the time when they they finish school and also has a small
out-building with accommodation for volunteers.
